“I love these minimalist track bikes.   Not sure I could make one work in the city traffic though.”

Spot on.  I love them but wouldn’t ride it in the city.  This mindset has to come from the same place as the people who drive Lamborghinis and Porches into town.  The speed limit is 30 and the next red light is a block away.  Who cares if you can get to it before anyone else?

On the other hand I love the style: The clean lines.  One gear.  Look at the posture!  This bike is not designed to stop.  That holds my appeal.  Because I do not stop.

Bike to Work, day 17

It was a struggle to get out of bed this morning.  I left twenty minutes late, and powered my way here.  It felt like I was running on empty, though.  18mph is not bad for the shortcut.

Riding through a parking garage gives a unique perspective on speed.  Since cars drive so slowly there, cycling through at 20mph seems incredible!

Another non-impressive ride.  No idea why I had such little energy today.  Maybe it was the light dinner yesterday?

Bike to Work, day 16

April 9, 2009

I had the day off yesterday.  Slept until 1pm, played cello and worked out.  It was a good day.

This morning it was light out when I left the house.

Considering the effort I put in this afternoon, I’m very impressed with this time.  It’s a beautiful sunny afternoon.  I have two tests at the karate studio this week: Saturday and Thursday.  Wish me luck!

Bike to Work, day 15

April 6, 2009

Yesterday it was 60°, sunny, with a touch of  wind.  All in all beautiful.  This morning frost clung to the world and laughed it’s slow, bitter victory over life, but I biked in anyway.

About three quarters of the way to work I realized that I did not care, at all, about how fast I could ride in today.  I even cut through the walkways to get there sooner.

The weekend was amazing, but tiring.  More later.

I dropped my cyclometer at my doorstep, and my shoe covers completely failed to keep my feet dry.

*heavy rain

Now, after a hot shower, I’m going to take myself a nap then consider driving to boston for spin jam and ceremony and such.

Or forgot to remember.  Regardless, I’m amazed that I beat my morning time again.

However, that’s not what I want to talk about.  I want to talk about the things I remembered, and forgot, recently:

Monday: Forgot that I was covering class at the studio.

Yesterday: Remembered to lube the chain, adjust the rear derailleur.  Forgot to lock the bike at work.

Today: Forgot my helmet.

Rained with increasing intensitiy during the ride.  Fairly heavy rain by the end.  I’ve cycled in thunderstorms before, but today I should have worn the tights and gloves.  Thunder cut my post-ride shower short.  No new record.

Bike to Work, day 13

April 2, 2009

I didn’t think much of this morning’s ride.  It was cold and wet, I left a bit late, I had a power bar before the ride.

It didn’t feel bad, certainly, but it lacked that incredible thrill of a fast ride.  Turns out I’m 2 seconds faster than my best for the year!

*very wet, light rain

The conditions, and temperature, are the same as my last fast ride.  Not Bad!

The ride home felt like it was into the wind the whole way.  I had no energy for it.

That’s fair, really.  I’ve been exhausted for days.  Time for a shower, a nap, and then to teach my last class of the week.  Back to assisting next week.  This was a blast, I cannot express how much I loved leading the classes.

Bike to Work, day 12

I am not getting enough sleep during the week.

I didn’t push this morning.  Not really.  And yet I matched yesterday’s time.  Traffic was a problem because I left late.  An endless line of cars foiled my momentum.  Below freezing, really?  April Fools?
